Tea-time Church Resources

|
Each month in IDEAS we publish resources for what we call Tea-time Church.
This is our own development of Messy Church
and we run it each month in our own church. and we are working towards
providing a resources for 3 years and there is a definite pattern
to our offering. The cycle is designed to start in September and for
the first 3 months we look at the story of Moses and then we move
to Christmas and then into the life of Jesus. As we move through his
life we introduce the parables and stories that he told. Eventually we
move into the events of Holy week and Easter. We have just about
completed the first year's resources.
Instead of
starting with craft we offer suggestions for games. Most of them can be
run as folk arrive and are quite energetic. We have always found it
useful to run the energy out of children as we start.
We follow this each month with a Bible-bop. These are videos by John
Hardwick which, although they can be sung to, the are primarily
designed to be danced to. We have found that children of the 21st
century really enjoy it and all age from 2 to 92 can join in. We
provide one of these each month as part of the package.
Also each month we offer 4 songs as PowerPoint files and videos. Many
of these are animated of full videos and many songs have actions
associated with them. We aim to offer three children's songs and one
more suited for adults.
There are opening prayers which we provide and then we suggest a video
to introduce the theme. Over the 3 years we make use of "The Prince of
Egypt", "The Miraclemaker", "The Parables" and "Puppets 'n' Parables".
This is generally followed by a short introduction and then another
song before moving into the craft. The advantage of working this way is
that the theme has been introduced before starting the craft. Generally
we offer a community craft that can be put on the wall so others can
see what the Tea-time Church folk are doing. We also offer links to
other craft activities that are offered online.
If you are running this on a Sunday then we would suggest having a
traditional Sunday tea, for instance we find that sandwiches, sausage
rolls, pizza are popular and jelly and ice cream is a must.
Finally we finish by returning to worship were we generally look at the
biblical story and then explore the passage in a little more depth and
then conclude with a "song for the grown up". At the Deepings this is
the evening service for that week and some of the older members join us
for tea and then the service.
This is the ideal time to think about running this from September later
this year and so we are making an offer that will help you. Tea-time
church is included in the monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions
for IDEAS or can also be bought indivually for £3. We are offering
the whole year 1 for just £30 and then the whole of year 2 for the same
price.
You will receive a single password for the whole year's Tea-time Church
resources. Do take a look at these resources under IDEAS at the Tea-Time Church Index
